RMHC Grants

What We Fund
RMHC of Eastern New England not only works to improve the health and well being of children directly through our core programs, we also work with local non-profit organizations that are making an immediate, positive impact on children who need it most. RMHC of Eastern New England awards grants to non-profit organizations for programs which directly improve the health and well being of children in these main areas.

  • Health Care
  • Education
  • Civic and Social Services

Eligibility
To qualify for funding, projects must address problems in a definitive manner and have a measurable impact on children in central and eastern Massachusetts, New Hampshire or Rhode Island. Grants are awarded to those programs which can clearly demonstrate that thy provide meaningful services to children in need.

How to Apply
Each project submitted will be evaluated by RMHC of Eastern New England's Board of Trustees, and all funding decisions are made by the Board.  Grant applications are reviewed on a quarterly basis. Additionally, since the primary goal of Ronald McDonald House Charities is to fund programs demonstrating measurable success, RMHC of Eastern New England will give priority to direct service projects and does not fund operating budgets.

RMHC Scholars Program in Memory of Charles E. Winterhalter

Avid sports fan, devoted family man, and charismatic leader with a contagious smile, McDonald’s Owner/Operator and Dartmouth High Alumni Charles E. Winterhalter believed in working hard, supporting his South Coast community and beyond, and enjoying life to its fullest.

Under his leadership as President of RMHC of Eastern New England, thousands of local children were helped throughout the years when they needed it most. The RMHC Scholars Program in Memory of Charles E. Winterhalter celebrates his life and continues his legacy of strength, commitment, determination and helping others.

With education costs spiraling ever higher, a college education is beyond the financial reach of many outstanding students. The RMHC Scholars Program in memory of Charles E. Winterhalter opens the door to higher education for graduating high school seniors, from the following schools, who face limited access to educational and career opportunities.

  • Bishop Stang High School
  • Dartmouth High School
  • Fairhaven High School
  • Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School
  • New Bedford High School

This program seeks to invest in students who are exemplary role models in their communities and demonstrate the initiative to fulfill their educational goals. The goal of the program is simple: to identify and invest in future leaders.

2011/2012 scholarship application deadline closed January 27, 2012, the applications are currently being processed and the winners will be determined May 2012.

Helping the Community

"Thanks to a grant from Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern New
England, we will institute a Family Reading Program and set up a Reading Resource Library at each of our three shelter sites. The purpose of the Family Reading Program is to engage the whole family in reading together."
