Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Bentley!
“There are a lot of people in the world that are going through challenging times whether its cancer or another illness, so I feel like everyone should give back”
On Monday evenings Katherine and Bentley visit RMH Boston Harbor to provide much-needed relief from a long day of hospital visits. Coming home to a furry friend with a wagging tail helps create a sense of normalcy and home-like atmosphere for our children and their family members. Children light up as Bentley shows off his tricks in exchange for a treat.
Katherine has always been involved with community service but had struggled to balance owning a dog and giving back at the same time. RMH Boston Harbor allows Katherine and Bentley to be together and volunteer simultaneously.
“With every visit, there is one moment that makes it worth it, I love when the kids laugh and light up around Bentley and are able to forget why they are at the House in the first place. I love that the House allows parents to open up to each other and make it a safe place.” She says, “overall I am thankful I can provide children with a distraction from what they are going through”
Bentley and Katherine make a lasting impression on each and every child they visit, in fact, as a fair warning to parents who visit, many of the children staying with us go home to a Bentley puppy of their own once treatment is over!
