The Happy Wheels program was piloted in June 2011 as a creative response to addressing an ever growing waitlist at Ronald McDonald House at Stanford. Since then, the Happy Wheels program has been growing throughout the country.
In February 2017, the first Happy Wheels program in New England started at the UMass Memorial Children’s Medical Center. It will be serving the PICU and the Pediatric Unit a couple of days a week.
Volunteers direct the cart through various units providing toys, books and activity kits for entertainment; hot drinks, water and healthy snacks as well as a variety of other comfort items creating an endless amount of warm smiles.
All volunteers have to go the the hospital’s volunteer orientation.
